Before the business ate your calendar, there was a version of this story that was supposed to go differently. You had a skill, a market, and a clear path: build something that pays you without demanding everything you have.
The early days were good. Revenue was climbing. You were doing the work — real work, the kind only you could do. Clients stayed. Referrals came. You were ahead of the curve.
Then the business got heavier. One client became ten. One process became thirty. The thing you built to carry you started to need carrying itself. The work you loved got buried under the work you had to do.
You hired people to buy time. They needed managing. You adopted tools to create order. They created dependencies. You read the frameworks, watched the tutorials, and tried to implement between client calls. Nothing quite shipped. Nothing quite held.
Somewhere between the Slack messages and the Sunday evening catch-up sessions, the original plan got lost. The business was running — but you were the engine. And engines do not get weekends.
